Circumstances happen to us all. At times, life hits you hard and knocks you down. You rise and before long, another tsunami hits you again. You feel life is against you and you are moving against tides of life and without thinking, you admit, to a certain extent, you have spent too much of your life thinking too much of life adversity and you seem too little in your own eyes. Trying to become smaller. Quieter. Less sensitive. Less opinionated. Less needy. Less YOU. Because you felt broken, and you didn’t want to be too much or push people away. You wanted to fit in. You wanted people to like you. You wanted to make a good impression. You wanted to be wanted. So you could feel healed.

And so for years, you talked down to yourself, and sacrificed your peace of mind for the sake of making other people happy. For years, you suffered. Now you’re tired of suffering, and you’re done thinking you aren’t good enough just the way you are.

Friend, you are not alone in this sphere of life. It’s not your job to change who you are in order to become someone else’s idea of a worthwhile human being. You are worthwhile. Not because other people think you are, but because you are breathing your own air, and therefore you matter.

Your truth matters. Your feelings matter. Your voice matters. And with or without anyone’s approval or permission, you must be who you are and live your truth. Even if it makes people turn their heads. Even if it makes them uncomfortable. Even if they choose to leave.

Even if your own confidence in yourself has been shaken! The real battle is in your mind. And your mind is under your control, not the other way around. You may have been broken down by life situations and circumstances, but YOU are not broken. So don’t let others convince you otherwise. And don’t let your mind get the best of you either.

Heal yourself by refusing to belittle yourself. Choose to take up a lot of positive space in your own life today. Choose to give yourself permission to meet your own needs. Choose to honor your feelings and emotions. Choose to make self-love and self-care top priorities.

Choose to think better about yourself irrespective of what life throws at you. But, of course, as I’m sure you’re aware, that’s sometimes much easier said than done. The truth is that inner peace begins the moment you take a deep breath and choose not to allow life to control your thoughts. You are not what happened to you. You are what you choose to become in this moment.
